Amber Fort also known as Amer Fort is a sprawling fort exemplary to the grandeur & magnificence of the Rajputs. An architectural marvel, the fort is a stunning structure built of red sandstone & white marble.

Until Jaipur was declared the official capital of the Kachhawaha clan in 1727, Amber served as their ancient citadel
History: The construction of Amber Fort was started under the rule of Maharaja Man Singh I in the year 1592 & was completed during the reign of Maharaja Jai Singh I. The Amber Fort people recognize today was originally a palace complex within the premises of what is today known as Jaigarh Fort.
Attractions: The Amber Fort is renowned for its unique blend of Hindu & Muslim architectural styles. While the fort has an imposing & rugged exterior, the interior of the fort is much lavish & warm with frescos, murals & paintings depicting temperament of Rajputs adorning the fort walls. Also seen are walls with mosaic, intricate ornamentation & mirror work.
The Amber Fort has four main sections, each accessible through staircases leading from a central location of the fort or through broad pathways that today is used for elephant rides. One such staircase leads to the Kali Temple or the Shila Devi Temple renowned for its huge silver lions. Other attractions of the fort include Diwan-I-Aam, Ganesh Pol, Jai Mandir, Sheesh Mahal, etc. However, the attraction that most adds to the charm of the Amber Fort is the Maotha Lake which features a beautiful mirror image of the fort on its still waters.
Activities: It is believed that the best way to explore this ancient fort is the Royal elephant ride. Another interesting activity at the fort is the sound & light show in the evening.
The beautiful Amber Fort can easily be accessed either via taxis or the city buses. A trip to Jaipur cannot be considered complete without a visit to this imperial Amber Fort.
