Established as the Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary in 1955 by the Government of India, Ranthambore National Park is one of the largest parks in northern India. This park got its name from the historic Ranthambore fortress that is located in the park itself. Initially a Game Sanctuary, Ranthambore became a national park in 1980. Location: The Ranthambore National Park is located in Sawai Madhopur district of Eastern Rajasthan, bound by river Chambal in the South and river Banas in the North. It covers this land area of 392 sq kms.
Flora & Fauna:
Flora: The Flora in this park includes - 300 plant species. Due to scanty rainfalls in the region, the vegetation of the park chiefly contains the dry deciduous type. Some of the trees you can mostly find here are - Dhok, Banyan, Pipal and various fruit trees.
Fauna: As, it is tiger reserve; you can very easily spot tiger here. Apart from Tigers, there are numerous other species of animals too that can be spotted in the park like- wild species including leopards, jungle cat, jackal, porcupine, wild boar, sloth bear, marsh crocodile, Indian gazelle and sambar. This park is also a heaven for bird watches as it is home to about 270 species of birds that mainly include a large number of migratory birds.
How to Reach:
Rail: The nearest railway station is Sawai Madhopur railway station that is 11-kms away from the park located on the Delhi to Bombay trunk route.
Air: the closest airport from Ranthambore wildlife sanctuary is Jaipur at the distance of 145-kms.
Road: Sawai Madhopur is the nearest town from Ranthambore National Park that is well connected by good network of buses with many major cities of Rajasthan.
The Best Time to Visit: the best time to visit Ranthambore National Park is during the months of October - March and April to June. And the visiting timings are -
- Between October To March: 6.00 am - 9.00 am & 3.00 pm - 6.00 pm
- Between April To June: 6.30 am - to 9.30 am & 3.30 pm - 6.00 pm
